Frequently asked questions

October 26, 2026

Do I need a visa?

Citizens of the EU, UK, US and many other countries enter visa-free for up to 180 days. Check your country's current rules before departure.

Is Armenia safe?

Yerevan is one of the safest capitals we know — walking home at 2 a.m. is unremarkable. As anywhere, check your government's travel advice for border areas.

When is the best time to visit?

May–June and September–October: mild weather, clear views of Ararat, apricots (June) and harvest season (September). July–August is hot in the valley but perfect for Dilijan and Sevan.

What currency is used? Can I pay by card?

The Armenian dram (AMD). Cards work in Yerevan almost everywhere; carry some cash for villages, markets and taxis.

How do I get around?

Taxis (GG, Yandex Go) are very cheap in cities. Between towns: marshrutkas (minibuses), the Yerevan–Gyumri train, or a driver for the day — which is what our tours include.

Do people speak English?

Young people in Yerevan, yes. Elsewhere Russian is the most common second language — but a smile and three words of Armenian (barev, shnorhakalutyun, genats!) open every door.
